Francis Bacon (1909-1992) was an English artist noted for his work of depicting images of cruelty and discomfort in abstract and experimental forms.
Bacon was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1909 and spent most of his childhood in England. He studied fine arts in London and began working as an artist in the 1930s. Initially, his work was influenced by surrealist artists such as Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso.
However, Bacon's later works became more experimental and depicted more violent and daring images. He often depicts images that are hard to see, including figures that are distorted and suffering. His work is often seen as a commentary on violence and corruption in modern society.
Bacon's notable works include "Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion" (1944), "Study after Velázquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X" (1953), and "Triptych Inspired by the Oresteia of Aeschylus" (1981). In addition, Bacon is also known as one of the richest artists in the history of fine arts.
Bacon died in 1992 in Madrid, Spain. Despite his controversial works, he is considered one of the most significant artists of the 20th century and his work continues to influence today's artists.
