Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was a renowned Norwegian artist known for his experimental and expressive paintings depicting human emotions and psychological suffering.

Munch was born in Løten, Norway in 1863. The family moved frequently, and Munch grew up in various towns in Norway. He began to show interest in the fine arts at a young age, and in 1881, he attended the Royal Norwegian School of Art in Oslo.

Munch was heavily influenced by Romantic and Symbolist ideas, and his works often explore intense psychological and emotional themes. One of his most famous works is "The Scream" (1893), which features a shocked and screaming character against a backdrop of an eerie red sky. This painting is often considered one of the most famous works of art in the world.

During his life, Munch faced many difficult mental health and personal life issues, which are often reflected in his work. However, he remained productive and continued to paint and create other works of art until his death in 1944 in Ekely, Norway.

Munch's work continues to be studied and appreciated today. He is considered one of the pioneers in modern art and is often considered one of the most famous Norwegian artists of all time. Some of his notable works include "Madonna", "Ashes", and "Puberty".
