Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) was a Dutch artist known for his beautiful and realistic paintings, with very subtle use of light and shadow. Vermeer is considered one of the finest artists of the golden age of Dutch art in the 17th century.
Vermeer was born in Delft, Netherlands in 1632, and he was considered a highly prolific artist during his short life. He spent most of his life in this small town and describes everyday life in the Netherlands at that time, including family life, art and music.
Vermeer's works often feature women and children in everyday settings, as well as portraits of figures from the middle class of the time. He is noted for his realistic depiction techniques and subtle light, with heavy use of bright blues and yellows.
Some of Vermeer's notable works include "Girl with a Pearl Earring" (c. 1665-1667), "The Milkmaid" (c. 1658-1660), and "View of Delft" (c. 1660-1661).
Vermeer died in 1675 at the age of 43, and although his works were not well known in his lifetime, he has since become recognized as one of the finest artists in Dutch art history. His artistic heritage continues to be a source of inspiration for many artists and art enthusiasts around the world today.
