Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was a famous American artist, film director, and painter. He is known as an important figure in the pop art movement, which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s as a response to the emerging consumer culture in the United States.

Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1928. He grew up in Slovak immigrants and was initially attracted to the art of drawing comics and cartoons. He studied fine arts at the Carnegie Mellon School of the Arts in Pittsburgh before moving to New York City in 1949.

In New York City, Warhol worked as an illustrator for fashion magazines and advertisements. He began making art featuring famous imagery such as Coca-Cola bottles, Campbell's soup cans, and Hollywood movie stars. These works demonstrate Warhol's tendency to take objects from popular culture and present them in new ways, which often question the value and meaning of these objects.

In 1962, Warhol opened his first art exhibition at the Ferus gallery in Los Angeles. He is known for his multiple printing technique (serigraphy) to create repetitive images in his works. Warhol began working with rock musicians such as The Velvet Underground, and he also made films that became increasingly popular, such as "Chelsea Girls" (1966).

Warhol died in 1987 of complications after undergoing digestive surgery. Warhol is considered one of the most influential and celebrated artists of the 20th century, and his work continues to influence art, design and popular culture today.
